Could Meghan Markle make an appearance on NBC’s new spinoff of her old series “Suits?”
More than five years after the hit show wrapped, NBC is spinning the story in a new setting withย “Suits LA.” The new series premieres on February 23 and featuresย Stephen Amellย as the only returning cast member in a lead role. But could the Duchess of Sussex make a cameo? The short answer is maybe, maybe not.
Meghan Markle Played Rachel Zane For Seven Seasons
Meghan Markle took on the role of paralegal Rachel Zane in season 1 of the original “Suits” in 2011. Zane turned out to be her breakout role. She appeared in 108 episodes before exiting at the end of season 7. Markle announced her departure from the series the day after Buckingham Palace announced her engagement to Prince Harry.
Show Creator Says Markle has “Open Invitation”
But will we see Markle’s Zane character again in the spinoff “Suits LA?”
At the Suits LA series premiere, series creator Aaron Korshย told “People Magazine,” โSo, look, to me, we have thought about whether it be Meghan or any of the other cast members coming on and playing themselves as an actor. I think for me that’s a little … My brain blows up at the thought of that.”
Korsh says he has some concerns about Meghan Markle’s intense fame making it too difficult for the audience to see her as anything other than herself.
โSo I think it blows up the world too much,โ Korsh tells “People.” โObviously, if Meghan wants to come back under any circumstances, Meghan can come back.โ
When asked if Markle has “an open invitation” to rejoin the cast, Korsh replies, โOf course. Of course. Always. But I think realistically, it would be too much of an explosion of the fourth wall to do that. Yeah.โ
Meghan Markle Focused on New Netflix Series and Lifestyle Brand
Meanwhile, Meghan Markle’s attention is firmly focused on future roles rather than past.
Her new Netflix series โWith Love, Meghanโ debuts March 4.
The Duchess has also rebranded her lifestyle website As Ever.
In aย postย on her new Instagram account, Meghan explains why she made the move to rename the brand. It was originally called American Riviera Orchard.
In the video, she says, โLast year, I had thought, โAmerican Riviera, that sounds like such a great name.โ Itโs my neighborhood; itโs a nickname for Santa Barbara, but it limited me to things that were just manufactured and grown in this area,. Then Netflix came on, not just as my partner in the show, but as my partner in my business. which was huge. So I thought about it, and Iโve been waiting for a moment to share a name that I had secured in 2022, and this is the moment, and itโs called As Ever.โ
Markle just posted a vision board on her Instagram account dropping hints about the brand, captioned, “From memory lane to the memories Iโm making todayโฆ”
The vision board includes what appears to be a menu inย Meghan’s signature calligraphy. According to “People,” Markle actually taught calligraphy, gift-wrapping and book-binding at theย Paper Sourceย store in Beverly Hills from 2004-2005.
The vision board also features a black and white image of her and farm-to-table movement pioneerย Alice Waters, who appears in her new show,ย “With Love, Meghan.”
Near that is a piece of fabric withย the logo for As Ever woven into it.
At the bottom of the board is a green star that appears to be made by Markle and Prince Harry’s 5-year-old son Prince Archie. The artwork includes his handwritten name.
