Harrison Ford Teams Up with Jeff Daniels

Fans of โ€œDumb and Dumberโ€ who have been waiting to see Jeff Daniels return to comedy should subscribe to Apple TV+ soon. He will be joining Harrison Ford and Jason Segel’s hit show.

Deadline reported March 12, 2025 that the โ€œSteve Jobsโ€ actor is taking on a recurring role as Jason Segelโ€™s father in the show โ€œShrinking.โ€ย

The show stars Segel as Jimmy, a therapist who takes a more personal approach in his patients’ lives in order to see more concrete results. He is also dealing with grieving for his wife who was killed in a drunk driving accident.

โ€œShrinkingโ€ also stars Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams, Lukita Maxwell, Micahel Urie, Luke Tennie, Christa Miller and Ted McGinley. The show has been nominated for countless awards including Golden Globes, Primetime Emmys, Screen Actors Guild, and Writers Guild Awards.

A Comedic Return to Form

Daniels has not done comedy in some time. His most recent roles have been television based on top of being more drama focused. Daniels has been in Netflixโ€™s โ€œA Man in Fullโ€ and the joint Showtime/Prime Video streaming โ€œAmerican Rust.โ€

His last comedic role was the 2014 โ€œDumb and Dumberโ€ sequel, โ€œDumb and Dumber To.โ€

Daniels spends intervening years on stage, too, acting in major Broadway productions. In 2016, he took on the role of Ray Brooks in โ€œBlackbirdโ€ at Belasco Theatre. From 2018-2019 and in 2021, he played Atticus Finch in โ€œTo Kill a Mockingbirdโ€ at Shubert Theatre.

The actor has been nominated many times over. Multiple nods at the Golden Globes, Primetime Emmys and Screen Actors Guild Awards have resulted in two Emmy wins.

Apple TV+ Is Where Daniels Will Be for a Bit

Daniels will be working with Apple TV+ for some time seeing as how he is already slated for another starring role on the platform. The streamer is developing โ€œDilettante,โ€ a story about former Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter. The show is inspired by a memoir of the same name by Dana Brown.

โ€œDilettante: True Tales of Excess, Triumph, and Disasterโ€ follows Brown in his 20โ€™s going from college dropout to Carterโ€™s assistant at Vanity Fair in the 90โ€™s.

Oddly enough, actor Jeff Bridges also played a fictionalized version of Carter in the 2008 comedy โ€œHow To Lose Friends And Alienate Peopleโ€ – also based on a book.

Daniels next yet to be released role will be as Ronald Regan in Michael Russell Gunnโ€™s โ€œReykjavik.โ€ He is joined by Jared Harris, J.K. Simmons, Aya Cash and John Ross Bowie. The movie is currently in post production and awaiting distribution.
