On This Day in 2020, an A-List Couple Tied the Knot

On this day back in 2020, two A-list Hollywood stars quietly said “I do” in an intimate, at-home ceremony that captured hearts around the world. Their wedding, held during the height of the pandemic, was a simple yet elegant affair, which is proof that even A-listers can opt for love over lavishness.

The low-key celebration by the couple, Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost, became one of the year’s rare feel-good stories in a time when the world needed it most.

The “Black Widow” star and the “Saturday Night Live” star were wed on October 29, 2020. The couple had an intimate wedding, which Johansson described as “how it was supposed to be — minus the face masks,” during an appearance on “Late Night With Seth Meyers.”

While the wedding was small and intimate because of the pandemic, she said, “It was beautiful and we were so happy to see people that we hadn’t seen in such a long time. We just felt very fortunate to be able to get together like that.”

While the wedding was beautiful, she did admit that the planning process was a “little stressful,” especially with trying to follow all the necessary safety measures at the time. One of those precautions was the face coverings, which they had special ones made that said “Jost 2020.”

“Obviously we wanted to take all the precautions, every precaution that we could, so we had the masks made,” Johansson recalled. “It definitely was a weird party favor that could only happen now, but you just gotta go with it.”

The couple first met in 2006 when Johansson hosted “SNL” for the first time. However, they did not become romantically entangled until 2017. 

Johansson and Jost made their first public appearance as a couple in November 2017. They have since appeared together on numerous red carpets.

In May 2019, the couple announced their engagement after two years of dating. Rumors had been going around that the couple was considering marriage, but the engagement wasn’t confirmed until May 2019.

In October 2020, the couple was wed. This is the third marriage for Johansson. She was previously married to actor Ryan Reynolds from 2008 to 2011. Johansson was also married to French journalist Romain Dauriac from 2014 to 2017.

She has an 11-year-old daughter, Rose, with Dauriac. Jost and Johansson also have a son, Cosmo, together. Cosmo was born in August 2021.

This is the first marriage for Jost. However, the comedian has been linked for several years with Rashida Jones.
