Actress and producer Jennifer Aniston is working overtime on her passion project to remake the 1980 classic “9 to 5.”
But will the legendary Dolly Parton clock in to reprise the role of Dora Lee from the original film?
Dolly is shedding some light on that issue in a new interview with HuffPost.
“Jane [Fonda], Lily [Tomlin] and I have been trying for years to try to come up with a ‘9 to 5: Two’ through the years,” Parton said in the interview. “It never happened.”
But now that it is happening under Aniston’s steam, it may come too late for the original trio.
“In Jennifer’s story, they wanted us to be involved in it somehow,” said Dolly. But on screen roles, she says, are unlikely.
“We have no plans to be in that,” the singer admitted. “I think a lot of it is that, you know, we’re all older now. We’re not gonna look that good on the big screen. All of us up there with all those beautiful, young, fresh people … so I don’t know.”
Dolly Parton Has Seen the New ‘9 to 5’ Script and Likes It
Just because Dolly doesn’t want to be on the big screen any more doesn’t mean she doesn’t like the reboot.
“I love Jennifer, I think it’ll be a wonderful thing,” she told HuffPost. “I do wish her the best, because the script I read, I thought, was really good and a new and different take that really brings the office up to date the way that people live now.”
“The Morning Show” and “Friends” star is said to be pursuing Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney and Ariana Grande to take on the roles originated by Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton. And it seems Aniston will also play a key role.
According to Life & Style, a source close to Aniston says, “With another season of ‘The Morning Show’ in the can, Jen is focused on getting her ‘9 to 5’ remake in shape, and it’s looking increasingly like Jen will be starring in the film in addition to producing it.”
Dolly Parton Says She’d Love to Be a Part of the Remake In Other Ways
While Dolly Parton seems to be saying no to a role in the film, she clarifies that she still wants to be a part of the remake.
“I really would love to see the show. And I’d love to be able to write some music, be involved in that way with it,” Dolly said.
Dolly says she’s had a long friendship with Aniston. “I told her, I said, you’re more than welcome to use my song ‘9 to 5.’ And if you need some additional songs, or if you need the ‘9 to 5’ song rewritten or reworked, you know, to do that.”
