Post Malone may have dipped a toe into country music, but now the singer is about to dive all the way in.
According to a band member on tour with Malone, the singer’s next album will lean heavily into traditional country music.
Guitarist Derek Wells told the Tennessean that Malone’s next album will be “a step back in time.”
“There’s also more fiddle, pedal steel, guitar solos. Where we started as two feet over the line into traditional country on F-1 Trillion has turned into head, chest, shoulders and feet across the line on where we’re headed with the next batch of songs,” says the Nashville-based guitarist.
Malone himself says he has already recorded at least 35 songs for the project. In fact, Malone told Billboard that now, ” it’s just a matter of which ones rock, and which ones sock.”
Post Malone Continues ‘Big A** Stadium Tour’ With Jelly Roll
Post Malone and country musician Jelly Roll are spending the summer together on tour.
The pair have been touring nationally since April in Post’s “Big A** Stadium Tour.” That wraps up July 1 in San Francisco, California. Then after a month off, the pair will head overseas for the European leg of the tour, called “Big A** World Tour.”
Post and Jelly will hit sixteen countries in all, starting in Eastern Europe with a concert in Cluj-Napoca, Romania on August 8. Their September 7 show in London has already sold out, motivating them to add a second show there on September 8. That tour ends September 14 in Lisbon, Portugal.
Post Malone Has Found His People in Country Music Community
In addition to his friendship with Jelly Roll, Post Malone has found his community in Nashville’s country music scene.
That includes friends and fellow artists like Ernest, Hardy, Thomas Rhett and others. Post told Billboard that when he goes to Music City, “we just have fun. We just sit and f—ing talk and make songs. And so I’m pretty excited for the new record already.”
Post Malone says he actually grew up listening to country music, saying his mother was a big fan.
“I’ve always just tried to make music that’s true to who I am — no matter,” Malone said in his Sony’s For the Music campaign spotlight. “I make what makes me happy.”
In fact, Post told Billboard that country music was always part of his plan. He said, “I said in an interview a while ago, ‘When I’m 30 years old, I’m gonna make a country record.’ And I made it at 29, so I wasn’t too far off. But you know, it just happened naturally. I was like, ‘F— it, let’s go to Nashville. Let’s give it a go.’ I think finally bringing the fun back into what I was doing really showed on the record. And I think a lot of folks had fun listening to it. And we’re going to attempt to do it again. I’m excited to keep going.”
