Thomas Rhett and wife Lauren Akins have baby number five on the way, and they say this time around, they’re doing things a little differently.
Rhett told “Taste of Country Nights” host Evan Paul that unlike with their first four children, they’re going to let the baby’s gender be a surprise.
“Due date is in March and we are going to wait until the day of, man, to figure out what the gender is,” Rhett revealed.
The father of four daughters, ages nine and under, explained, “It’s terrifying for me, but there’s not many surprises left in this world, and I feel that’s one that you kinda get to be surprised with, if you choose to.”
Rhett is embracing the thrill and the mystery, saying, “We’re genuinely excited, bro.”

Thomas & Lauren Put Their Big News to Music
Thomas Rhett and Lauren Akins picked a creative way to announce a new addition to their ever-growing family.
The singer put up a fun post on Instagram putting the news to music.
In the video, Rhett modifies the lyrics to his 2018 hit โLife Changes.โ
The original lyrics are:
โI remember the day I told my daddy and mama
Youโre gonna have a grandkid, yep
From Uganda, thatโs right, weโre adoptinโ
And she is the cutest little girl that youโve ever seen
Well I was wrappinโ my head around beinโ a dad
A bigger wrench got thrown in the plans we thought we had
Now Laurenโs showinโ and got one on the way
Yeah thatโs two into two, hey, what can I say?โ
Fast forward to 2025, and Thomas leans against a fence, strums a guitar and sings to wife Lauren:
โWell I was wrappinโ my head around beinโ a dad
A bigger wrench got thrown in the plans we thought we had
Now Laurenโs showinโ and got one on the way
Yeah thatโsโฆ [big pause] five under ten, hey, what can I say?โ
Lauren laughs, rubs her pregnant tummy and holds up a photo strip from an ultrasound as Rhett sings, โAinโt it funny how life changes
You wake up ainโt nothinโ the same and life changesโ
