How Tim McGraw Keeps Dad’s Memory Alive for His Daughters

Tim McGraw is letting fans in on how he keeps his late father Tug McGraw’s memory alive for his three daughters, and it’s not what you might expect.

It turns out that Tim has the 46-year-old white Mercedes convertible that used to belong to his dad, former major league baseball player Tug McGraw. According to Taste of Country, when McGraw was playing for the Mets, they won the World Series in 1969. And the elder McGraw used his bonus to buy the car.

After Tug McGraw died, Tim traded his brother a motorcycle for that Mercedes and lovingly restored it.

Years later, Tim McGraw would use that Mercedes to teach each of his three daughters, Gracie, Maggie and Audrey, how to drive.

The decision was especially meaningful since Tim McGraw and wife Faith Hill’s daughters were so young when Tug McGraw died of cancer. Audrey, the youngest, was only two-years-old at the time.

Tim McGraw Says Dad’s Mercedes Is Not His Only Keepsake Car

Tug McGraw’s white Mercedes convertible isn’t the only car Tim McGraw is hanging onto for sentimental reasons.

The “Humble and Kind” singer says there’s also a family car he won’t let go of. According to Taste of Country, McGraw said, “We have an old SUV that we’ve had forever … and it’s one of those I’ll never sell because it’s got so many memories in it. With my kids growing up and hauling cheerleaders to football games and going to basketball practices and softball practices and driving a bunch of cheerleaders to football games. And there were years I’d clean it out and still find pieces of Happy Meals and stuff in there. So, we’ve had a lot of great times in that car.”

Tim McGraw Supports Daughter’s Singing Career While Recovering from Surgery

Despite having to cancel an upcoming concert as he recovers from multiple surgeries for ongoing back and knee problems, Tim McGraw still traveled overseas to see his youngest daughter perform.

Tim McGraw posted a picture recently on his Instagram account that shows him sitting with wife Faith Hill at an outdoor table at a cafe in Copenhagen, Denmark. In the picture, Tim’s hands are resting on a cane. The post’s caption reads, “Hangin with my baby in Copenhagen to see @audreymcgraw on tour with the fabulous @brandicarlile“

The “Live Like You Were Dying” singer was set to headline the inaugural Professional Bull Riders (PBR) “Last Cowboy Standing” competition on July 21 in Fort Collins, Colorado, according to a press release. But a post on PBR’s Instagram account now says country group Cross Canadian Ragweed will perform in his place.

McGraw is still set to perform a pre-game concert for Major League Baseball’s Speedway Classic on August 2 at Bristol Motor Speedway.
