VIDEO: Hayley Erbert Says Two of Her Family Members Have Been Battling Cancer

Derek Hough and Hayley Erbert from “Dancing With the Stars” shared a special message on Instagram tonight. Erbert revealed that two of her family members, her father and stepfather, have been battling cancer this past year.

Standing Up to Cancer

Derek and Hayley shared the video on Instagram. It showed they are partnering with Mastercard in their mission to find a cure for cancer. In the video, Derek said this mission has always been “so close to our hearts, but recently, it’s become even more personal.”

This is when Hayley shares why it’s become even more personal. She states, “This past year, both my dad and my stepdad have faced cancer. We watched them endure grueling chemotherapy, radiation, and life-threatening surgeries. Seeing the strength it takes and the toll it takes has made supporting cancer research not just important to us, but deeply personal. So partnering with MasterCard on this cause is truly an honor.”

The couple has been using their dancing and their platforms to help give back to cancer research. Derek said they want to “bring hope, joy, and resources where they’re needed most.” He added, “It’s our way of fighting back, of turning what we love into a way to help find a cure.”

Hayley closed things out by saying, “We are so grateful to be a part of this fight, and we hope that through dancing, raising awareness, and inspiring others, we can make a difference for families like ours and for the countless others whose lives are changed forever by cancer.”

‘DWTS’ Fans Showered Them With Love

Derek asked his followers to let them know how they stand up to cancer. “Dancing With the Stars” fans didn’t hold back. They shared their stories in the comments and shared their love for the couple.

One fan wrote, “Love this so much! I had my left kidney removed two weeks ago, and just found out today that I’m cancer free and no further treatment is needed!! 😭😭 My oncologist was pretty certain that I would need another year of immunotherapy…but God! 🙌 Very emotional day for my family and I.”

Another added, “You are two special people. ❤️ Hayley you look beautiful!” One more fan said, “👏👏 thank you for everything you both do ❤️,” and another wrote, “You two continue to be amazing and a true inspiration to all of us. Thank you💖🙏.”

Of course, this video comes after Hayley asked for prayers back in May. At the time, she said her stepfather underwent a high-risk 11-hour surgery. The surgery was to remove a large tumor and cancer cells from his torso. She asked for prayers and well-wishes for his recovery.
