Maureen McCormick on the Secret to Her 40-Year Marriage

“The Brady Bunch” star Maureen McCormick is opening up about how she’s made her 40-year marriage to husband Michael Cummings work. McCormick, who competed on season 23 of “Dancing With the Stars,” married Cummings in 1985 and the couple welcomed their daughter, Natalie, in 1989.

According to McCormick, who played Marcia Brady on the iconic sitcom, Cummings wasn’t aware of her fame when the two first met. She told People he actually hadn’t heard of her at all “which was very refreshing for me, because [he had] no pre-conceived ideas about who I was. So it was really wonderful.”

Both Cummings and McCormick shared their thoughts on why their decades-long marriage has been so successful.

“You’ve got to have a sense of humor about things,” Cummings said. “You can’t take things too seriously. You got to let things go and just love the one you’re with. It’s a lifetime deal.”

McCormick, 69, echoed the sentiment, explaining that it was important to “celebrate the differences.” She and her husband both expressed that they are “very grateful and thankful to have found each other.”

McCormick has been candid in the past about her marriage, telling Closer Weekly in 2017, “Marriage is seriously the hardest thing you can ever do.” She emphasized that her wedded bliss was hard-won and that she and Cummings had put a lot of work into their relationship.

“You just need to get through those times when they can make you so mad, or when you want to walk out that door but don’t,” the actor explained, adding, “Today I trust that man with my life!”

She continued to praise her man, telling the outlet, “He’s never let me down — even though I’ve been so mad at him and we’ve disagreed about so many things, we’ve chosen to keep working at it.” McCormick joked, “I don’t know if anyone else could have taken me!”

McCormick Revisited Her TV Home for a Good Cause

It has been over 50 years since “The Brady Bunch” wrapped in 1974, but McCormick recently revisited the house where the show was filmed for a charity endeavor.

“I was back for a charity event,” she shared with People. “I love Best Buddies [and] Special Olympics, and they’re kind of connected, so I took a group of Best Buddies there, and they toured the house and they loved it.”

McCormick’s brother Denny has a disability, and the actor is one of his best friends and biggest cheerleaders. On July 1, she shared a pic on Instagram of her, Cummings, and Denny all smiles.

“Today is the start of #DisabilityPrideMonth!” McCormick captioned the photo “A month very near and dear to my heart💛 To everyone out there making a difference for our loved ones… THANK YOU!!!!!!”
