There were several A-listers on the red carpet, including Emma Stone, Michael B. Jordan, Selena Gomez, Cynthia Erivo, Julia Roberts, George Clooney, Jennifer Lawrence, Tramell Tillman, Jenna Ortega, Walton Goggins, Leonardo DiCaprio and Timothée Chalamet.

Why This Year’s Golden Globes Red Carpet Was Different

The red carpet itself, rather than a traditional red, was a custom “Golden Globes oxblood” color, according to The Hollywood Reporter. There was also a grand staircase built for stars to climb upon arrival. It was officially called “the Golden Ascent” and was “inspired by the motion of a film reel and the intersection of fashion and cinema,” per Unboxed Group which designed the space.

“This is truly something people haven’t seen every before—it’s so unmistakably Globes. Seeing it all come together is so rewarding,” Jitter Garcia, vice president of events and production design at Dick Clark Productions, told the ELLE Decor.

The red carpet was in a tent in an entirely different location with a whole new setup. The Golden Globes always takes place at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, California. But this year, though the show’s venue didn’t change, part of the hotel was under construction. “We’ve known for over a year that The Beverly Hilton was going to be under renovation and we would have to relocate the red carpet,” said Garcia. “But rather than a limitation, we saw it as an opportunity to do something different and reimagine the experience from the ground up.”

The entire red carpet was under a tent on Wilshire Boulevard. “In the past, we relied on weather reports on day of show,” said Garcia. “But this time, we thought we might as well build something in our favor and be able to control the light and temperature.”

The lighting for the carpet was an array of Swarovski chandeliers hanging throughout the structure. Also adding to the luxurious atmosphere was more than 75,000 flowers.
