Chef James Avery is back in the spotlight for “Hell’s Kitchen” Season 24, and honestly, it feels like the blue team just leveled up. Known for his no-nonsense approach and mentorship, Avery’s return brings both experience and energy to Gordon Ramsay’s high-stakes kitchen. Yep, the guy who can yell and coach you in the same sentence is back; and we’re all here for it.
A Decade of Dedication
James Avery first joined “Hell’s Kitchen” as the blue team’s sous chef in Season 11, sticking around through Season 14. After a break, he popped back for Season 23, and now he’s back again for Season 24. His role? Keep the blue team in check during dinner service, make sure the plates are perfect, and occasionally explode in ways that leave contestants speechless. Case in point:
“I’ve spent 18 hours with you guys today. I give you everything I got and that’s the bullshit you’re going to give me? In front of Chef Ramsay? Make me look like a dickhead in front of a dining room full of people. I’m beside myself right now with that. I can’t look at you guys anymore.”

Yep. That’s him calling people out with a full-on, theatrical meltdown; and honestly, it’s iconic. He’s the sous chef who pushes the blue team hard, but it’s all about making them better.
James Avery’s Culinary Journey
Avery’s resume off-screen is just as impressive. He’s owned and run acclaimed restaurants like The Bonney Read and The Black Swan, both in Asbury Park, New Jersey. His journey started with delivering pizzas at the Jersey Shore (humble beginnings, big energy), then moved through various restaurant gigs while attending college in Florida, before formal culinary training at The Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale, according to his website. Basically, he’s spent his life perfecting his craft; and yes, probably yelling at a few unlucky interns along the way.
Instagram Buzz & Fan Reactions
James Avery’s social media game is just as strong as his kitchen skills. In an Instagram post from earlier today teasing Season 24, he wrote: “No shirt, no shoes, no problem. Just don’t be late for dinner. Premiere 8pm EST tonight! Don’t worry I’ll be dressed for the occasion! @hellskitchenfox @foodclubfox”
If the comments are anything to go by, fans are very ready. “The HK Tatty Daddy in his preferred state,” said one person. Another commented with a simple, “Let’s Gooooooooo.” And lastly one fan was hyped: “LETS GO BLUE TEAM!!! #Blueteam #HellsKitchenseason24!!! I am soo ready!!!!”
Move over, contestants; the hype is real. Avery’s back, the blue team has a legend in their corner, and fans are living for it.
“Hell’s Kitchen” Season 24 premieres tonight (September 25, 2025) at 8:00pm ET on Fox, streaming the next day on Hulu.
