The Hallmark Channel’s newest movie, “Sugarplummed,” premieres on Saturday December 7, at 8 p.m. Eastern/7 p.m. Central. The movie stars Maggie Lawson and Janel Parrish. Read on to learn all about where the movie was filmed and the cast bringing the movie to life.
‘Sugarplummed’ Was Filmed in Canada
Like many Hallmark movies, “Sugarplummed” was filmed in Canada.
According to the ACFC West (a technical film union recognized by the Labour Board of British Columbia) the movie was filmed in and around metro Vancouver. It started shooting on September 9, 2024 and wrapped on September 27, 2024.
Maggie Lawson took to Instagram to post a few pictures from filming and commented simply “September love ❤️🍁✨.”
She also posted these trailer selfies, complete with a sunset, and wrote: “Trailer days in happy place.”
Parrish did the same, posting set pictures and other moments.
“Get ready to be “Sugarplummed” 🧚🤍 and what a time we are having @magslawslawson ✨ December 7th on @hallmarkchannel 🎄,” she wrote in another post.
“Happy place 🤍🎥🤍,” she shared.
Actress Kyra Leroux posted “September :)” and added a few pictures while on and off set.
Actor Avan Stewart also posted a picture in front of their trailer. “And that’s a wrap for Sugarplummed! A million cheers to this wonderful cast and crew, what an amazing experience,” Stewart wrote on September 29.
Ryan Landels wrote: “With the truly magical Janel Parrish in between camera setups. Get ready for her to make all your holiday wishes come true when #Sugarplummed premieres in one week! 🧚🏻🎄”

Emily (Lawson) has always dreamed of creating the perfect Christmas, meticulously planning every detail year after year, only to feel like she’s falling short. Hoping to bring her family closer together, she makes a wish for a holiday as picture-perfect as the ones she sees in a made-for-TV holiday movie. To her shock, Sugarplum (Parrish), the film’s relentlessly optimistic main character, magically steps off the screen to make Emily’s wish come true — whether she’s ready for it or not. Janel Parrish, who plays Sugarplum, grew up in Honolulu before moving to California as a teenager, according to her bio. Both her parents were bodybuilders, and her mom also worked at a health club in Honolulu, according to IMDb.
Parrish started dating chemical engineer Chris Long in September 2016 and got engaged on October 23, 2017. They tied the knot on September 8, 2018, at Kualoa Ranch in Oahu, Hawaii, Us Weekly reported. Tragically, Long’s father passed away in a drunk driving accident just two weeks before their wedding, People reported.
“We went to Hawaii and we had the most beautiful day, and during our vows, when Chris started talking about his dad, the sky opened up and it just started pouring rain on us. It was such a beautiful, I mean I don’t think anybody was dry eyed, like everybody cried because it was such a beautiful moment,” Parrish recalled to ET in 2019.
Maggie Lawson is Emily. According to her bio, she is well known for playing Juliet O’Hara on “Psych.” Her other TV credits include “Back in the Game,” “Inside Schwartz,” “E.R.,” “Party of Five,” and “Felicity.”
Lawson is a passionate animal lover and co-founder of The Tiger Frances Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to finding loving homes for animals. She’s especially proud of Love on Paws, a TTFF program that brings rescue animals into classrooms. The program is currently partnered with Communities in Schools and School on Wheels.
