HGTV star Jasmine Roth has become increasingly open about the history of mental illness in her family and her personal challenges of everyday life as she strives to be a loving wife, doting mother and successful businesswoman.
In a February 12 Instagram post, the “Help! I Wrecked My House” host poetically spoke to her “younger self” with a message of inspiration. Titled, “This Coffee Date,” Roth imagined being able to impart the wisdom of experience onto the impetuousness of youth.
In a particularly raw moment, Roth noted how her younger version felt “completely overwhelmed by her family drama,” being unable to fathom raising children in “an unpredictable world,” while present-day Jasmine bragged about her “two beautiful little girls that knew nothing of the chaos she was raised with.”
Roth also urged the Jasmine of years past not to forsake today in hopes of gaining something tomorrow.
“She said she was scared to fail. I told her I try to fail.
“She was hesitant to tell people her real story. I told her I was still working through it and just starting to feel comfortable.
“She said she had a lot to prove and would celebrate when she’d finally made it. I told her to celebrate now, because happiness is about the journey and not the destination.”
HGTV Star Poetically Navigates ‘Unpredictable World’
Throughout the poem, Roth compared and contrasted different aspects of her life, highlighting how some things may have changed, while others, not so much.
“She ordered a black coffee, but said she wasn’t hungry because Brett had made her breakfast. I ordered an ice water and laughed showing her a photo of Brett making me breakfast that morning as well.
“She mentioned she was busy; working 3 jobs, getting good grades, and going out every night she could. I told her I still have 3 jobs, but prefer dinner at 5 pm.
“She told me she wanted a designer suit for an upcoming interview. I told her I wear a tool belt and jeans to work now.”
Jasmine Roth Still Has ‘A Long Way To Go’
A September 30 article published by People magazine reported that Roth and her husband Brett Roth had officially welcomed their second daughter, Darla Rose Roth, noting that Darla had entered the world about a month prematurely, weighing only 4 lbs. 8 oz. And this happened as the family, including 4-year-old daughter Hazel, were preparing for a move to Park City, Utah.
But as Roth might say to her younger self, it’s all part of the journey.
“She seemed in awe of me. I told her we still have a long way to go.
“I hope we meet for coffee again.”
