Jasmine Roth Celebrates Baby Darla’s Milestone Year

Jasmine Roth is celebrating her baby daughter’s first birthday in a big way with a photo spread in PEOPLE.

The HGTV star just threw an epic birthday party to celebrate her younger daughter Darla’s first birthday. And while first birthdays are a big deal for any family, Jasmine says Darla’s is especially emotional because of her terrifying birth story.

The “Help! I Wrecked My House” designer went into labor a month early and nearly delivered Darla by the side of the road after a placental hemorrhage. At just 4 pounds, 8 ounces, the premature infant spent 15 days in a stepdown NICU before Jasmine and her husband Brett Roth could take her home.

Jasmine told PEOPLE, “How is it possible that our little Darla Rose is 1 already? It feels like yesterday that all 4lbs 8oz of her surprised us a month early. And while I’m definitely still not over that birth experience (not sure I ever will be) seeing her grow this past year has made it all worthwhile.” 

Jasmine Roth Says Darla is a ‘Giggly, Happy, Easy Baby’

Though her birth was anything but easy, Jasmine Roth says her youngest child has been a joy ever since.

Jasmine told PEOPLE, “She hasn’t just grown, she’s thrived! She is cuddly, funny, and after her health concerns were behind us, she’s been a giggly, happy, and easy baby. She has filled such a special place in our family.”

In fact, Darla has been an easy enough baby that Jasmine and husband Brett took her along on an epic Paris vacation this summer, alongside big sister, 5-year-old Hazel.

When followers questioned taking the kids along, Jasmine defended that decision in an Instagram post,. She wrote, “I’ve heard people say “it’s not worth it to travel with kids when they’re small because they won’t remember” and while I think that’s one way to look at it – I respectfully disagree. Yes, they won’t remember the trip, but somewhere in there every experience is shaping them. I believe that some of the greatest qualities we can bring into our adult lives are curiosity, resilience, and a love for exploration…and while we can certainly foster these things at home, travel feels like a crash course. So yeah, on some trips (and yes there are some they will NOT be coming on because mama needs a break too 😅) you’ll see us rolling deep with the whole family and while it might not always be the easy option, we believe it’s worth it.”

Big Sister Hazel’s Hilarious Reaction to Sister’s Name

Jasmine Roth revealed that Darla and older daughter Hazel have a wonderful relationship.

“One of the highlights of the party was seeing how proud Hazel was to be the big sis of the birthday girl,” she told PEOPLE. “She’s 5 years old and is Darla’s biggest fan and her best friend.”

Jasmine confessed, “Everyone warned that Hazel might struggle as an older sister, but she’s been astoundingly supportive, adaptive, and honestly, the two of them together is just so cute.”

But when Darla was first born, it was a slightly different story. At least when it comes to names.

At the time, Jasmine posted a video of herself and Brett telling Hazel that her new baby sister’s name is “Darla Rose Roth.” To which Hazel replied, “Oh I’ll be calling her Melody.”
