Jenn Todryk is getting real about her marriage in the latest episode of her podcast with husband Mike Todryk.
Inย a new โYou, Me & Mikeโ podcastย that just dropped, the HGTV designer talks about the couple’s age difference and how that affects their relationship.
“I got married very young,” Jenn says on the podcast. “Mike is 12 years older. I got married at 23-years old. Mike was married prior to me.”
“I had like relationships in college that lasted like 10 to 11 months… so I was very inexperienced on a deeper level, and I know that now.”
“But I remember when we’d argue when we were very first newly married. And I will say we didn’t have, like blowups, we’ve been very fortunate to where we both communicate very healthily. We set boundaries. No cussing at each other, no name-calling,” the “No Demo Reno” star explained.
“I think not cussing at each other definitely keeps things not escalated… I don’t want any cussing when we’re arguing because it chips away a little bit of my heart,” Jenn revealed.
Jenn and Mike Todryk Talk Marriage Dynamics
Jenn Todryk admits that when she was a newlywed, she fought immaturely and her husband said she was “the worst to argue with.”
“We would have an argument and I am extremely fast in comebacks.. I never back down, I’m quick and instantly have a comeback,” Jenn explained.
“And Mike would say ‘I need a minute.’ And I would be like ‘got it,'” saying she was determined to win.
“Now I’ve realized ultimately I’m losing by not letting you step away. Because don’t I want your true thoughts… rather than me just winning an argument,” Jenn said.
But Jenn says now she holds her tongue and doesn’t say everything she’s thinking. But she admits at the time, she saw Mike walking away as a weakness.
Their Podcast Is Back, But Jenn’s Show May Not Be
Jenn Todryk brought back her podcast with husband Mike after a 22-month gap. But things don’t look quite as hopeful for season four of her HGTV show “No Demo Reno.”
In episode one of the new season of her “You, Me & Mike” podcast, Jenn dropped a bombshell that while she loved all three seasons of the show, itโs not where her passion lies.
Jenn says that itโs actually her work on herย Rambling Redhead Instagram accountย that is โnot only a full-time job for me but thatโs what brings me joy.โ
โI started that as a stay-at-home mom,โ she said on the podcast. โAnd that has always brought me and joy and I really love doing it every day. … Thatโs what I enjoy doing full-time, so I still juggled that while filming the TV show.โ
‘No Demo Reno’ Took Too Much Time Away From Kids
Jenn Todryk admitted on episode one of the podcast that filming “No Demo Reno” took too much away from her family.
โThe main reason for not filming is I want to be home,โ said the designer.
Jenn explained that while she set up a filming schedule that let her finish filming by 4:30pm each day, it still didnโt work.
โSo the kids only had like 45 minutes of being at home without me after school, but itโs a strain,โ she admitted. โIt was us still showing up to pick them up every day and take them to school and pick them up and be the first and last face they see in and out the door. And thatโs something Iโve always been protective of and I want.โ
But Jenn didnโt feel engaged. Jenn began to tear up as she admitted, โI was noticing that I would get close to that 4:30 and Iโd be like โOh my gosh, we have softball. We have choir,โ and it was almost like a negative. Which I hated. You know I love, like, seeing our kids succeed and stuff. So I felt likeโฆ while I would fake it till I make it and I was still energetic and Iโm still good, like, they werenโt getting the best mom.โ
