Jonathan & Jordan Knight Talk Blocks

“New Kids on the Block” Jonathan and Jordan Knight have been spending some time on a different kind of block lately, teaming up for season six of HGTV’s popular design competitionRock the Block.

The brothers lived together in an apartment in Utah for the eight weeks of filming. And now they’re giving fans some insight into what the experience was like.

In an interview with Country Living, 56-year-old Jonathan said, โ€œSince we were kids, we shared a room and clothes, then on tour, we’ve always shared a bus and a dressing room, so this was the same except when it came to dinner time. Every night, the dilemma was, โ€˜What are we going to order for dinner? And what are we going to watch on TV?โ€™โ€

โ€œIt was like a new adventure we went on,โ€ added younger brother Jordan, 55. โ€œWe’ve always done things togetherโ€“sing in the same church choir, go to the same schools, share a bedroom, join New Kids. Doing the show was like carrying on our life together.โ€

Brothers Treated Time in Utah As an Adventure

The brothers took full advantage of their time together in Utah, where “Rock the Block” teams renovated four houses just outside Salt Lake City.

In an Instagram post in November 2024, Jonathan Knight shared pictures of their time there, writing, “Spent an amazing day with my brother. We started at Antelope Island where we saw wild bison and a pair of great horned owls. Then took a 2 hour drive to the salt flats to watch the sunset over this spectacular place. Really felt like we were on another planet. Having so much fun in Utah.”

In an interview with boston.com, Jordan said, “Salt Lake City is beautiful. It was just an amazing experience.โ€

But the pair admit the actual home renovations added new challenges to their relationship.

Jonathan has been flipping houses for 30 years and has his own HGTV seriesย “Farmhouse Fixer.”ย In that series, he and designer Kristina Crestin restore old farmhouses. And Jonathan is frequently seen getting his hands dirty. But Jordan doesn’t have the same background.

โ€œI would use building terminology and he wouldnโ€™t get it, so then Iโ€™d have to explain everything in detail and repeat myself,โ€ Jonathan said in the interview. โ€œBut heโ€™s definitely learned his way around the construction site and heโ€™s been learning the lingo!โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t know all the terms,โ€ agreed Jordan. โ€œThe biggest challenge was trying to explain everything to the camera. When I see something, I know what it is, but donโ€™t know always know how to explain it in the right terms. I definitely struggled with that. It was a heavy on my brain.โ€

‘Rock the Block’ Episode Six Will Have Brothers Going for the GOAT

On the May 19 episode of “Rock the Block,” the pair will be tasked with renovating the largest backyards in the show’s history with a budget that has been severely depleted.

Nevertheless, Jonathan and Jordan Knight are going for the GOAT- maybe as in Greatest Of All Time- but definitely as in actual goats. The pair say they are turning the one-acre space into a goat farm!

โ€œGoats are the way to go,โ€ says Jordan in the episode. โ€œGoats have personality!โ€

Once again, it’s brother Jonathan’s experience that comes into play. He raises goats at his Massachusetts farm.

Jonathan Knight Praises Jordan’s Eye for Design

Jonathan Knight told “Entertainment Tonight” that he thought his brother would say no when he asked him to team up for “Rock the Block.” “It’s such a grueling schedule” he said of the eight-weeks of filming.

But he’s glad Jordan said yes.

โ€œHeโ€™s got such a great eye,โ€ said Jonathan in the Country Living interview. โ€œHe really surprised me. I remember 10 minutes before one of our reveals, he looked at me and went, โ€˜Jon, it’s not right.โ€™ And I was like, โ€˜It’s really good,โ€™ but he insisted it wasnโ€™t right, ran into the space and started rearranging the whole room. I went down there and went, โ€˜Wow, youโ€™re right. This is so much better!โ€™โ€
