John Lodge, long celebrated as the bass guitarist, singer, and songwriter for The Moody Blues, has passed away at age 82.
His family said he was โsuddenly and unexpectedly taken from us,โ according to the Mirror.
โIt is with the deepest sadness that we have to announce that John Lodge, our darling husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law and brother, has been suddenly and unexpectedly taken from us,โ the heartbreaking statement read.
The statement did not mention the cause of death.
It continued, โAs anyone who knew this massive-hearted man knows, it was his enduring love of his wife, Kirsten, and his family, that was the most important thing to him, followed by his passion for music, and his faith. John peacefully slipped away surrounded by his loved ones and the sounds of The Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly.โ
His family added that they will forever miss him.
โWe are heartbroken, but will walk forwards into peace surrounded by the love he had for each of us,โ they added. โAs John would always say at the end of the show, thank you for keeping the faith.โ

Since joining The Moody Blues in 1966, Lodgeโs distinctive falsetto voice and deep songwriting shaped the bandโs sound.
ย He wrote hits like โRide My See-Saw,โ โTalking Out of Turn,โ and โEmilyโs Song.โ
The Moody Blues are one of rockโs most influential and imaginative bands.
Formed in Birmingham, England, in 1964, the group blended rock, pop, and classical sounds to create a unique, dreamlike style. With timeless hits like โNights in White Satin,โ โTuesday Afternoon,โ and โThe Story in Your Eyes,โ they helped shape progressive rock.
Their 1967 album โDays of Future Passedโ became a landmark in music history, combining orchestra and rock in a way never done before.
Over the decades, they sold more than 70 million albums. In 2018, he and his bandmates were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. ย
Lodge was set to have a series of concerts in December.
