It was supposed to be one of the most exclusive music and art festivals in the world.
Planned by rapper Ja Rule and a number of other organizers, Fyre Festival was slated to put festival-goers on the same island once owned by Pablo Escobar, Great Exuma in the Bahamas.
It promised “two transformative weekends” on the private island with fine cuisine and a slew of musical acts ranging from Blink 182 to Migos. Tickets ranged from $450 for general admission to $250,000 for a VIP package. One of the more popular ticket packages came at a price of $12,000.
Famous models filled the festival’s Instagram page advertising for what appeared to be one of the more unique parties of the year. The first weekend of festivities was scheduled for April 28-30 and the second being from May 5-7.
But once the droves of people arrived Thursday, they were greeted by what’s been described as “total chaos.”
Incomplete sleeping areas/tents, un-packaged boxes and lackluster food options were some of the highlights of the festival.
Now, those on the island appear to be stranded, as Fyre Festival organizers have “postponed” the event until they can “further assess if and when we are able to create the high-quality experience we envisioned.” They have been offered a refund as the festival promised to find them a flight back to Miami as soon as possible.
One Twitter user said that there are now flights scheduled for noon and 1 p.m. and drinks are free. Those left on the island are trying to make light of the unfortunate situation.
