Apple TV+ Show Canceled, Will Get New Ending

Fans of the Apple TV+ show “Mythic Quest” who enjoyed the end of the recent season will be in for a surprise.

The Apple driven streamer announced that the recent fourth season of the popular video game based comedy is the show’s last. However, in an unprecedented move, the series will get a brand new ending tacked onto the finale on April 18th.

Whether or not the new ending will be a full episode or a scene has yet to be announced.

Game Over

Variety was able to catch up with “Mythic Quest” creators Rob McElhenny, David Hornsby and Megan Ganz. The former two also star in the show.

“Endings are hard. But after four incredible seasons, ‘Mythic Quest’ is coming to a close,” the three told the outlet. 

“We’re so proud of the show and the world we got to build—and deeply grateful to every cast and crew member who poured their heart into it. To all our fans, thank you for playing with us. To our partners at Apple, thank you for believing in the vision from the very beginning,” they added.

One of the companies they also worked with is video game company Ubisoft, who created the computer generated interstitials that aired between scenes.

“Because endings are hard, with Apple’s blessing we made one final update to our last episode—so we could say goodbye, instead of just game over,” they conclude.

No More 1-Ups

The cancellation comes as a surprise given that Apple TV+ just debuted a spin off of the show called “Side Quest.” The mini series features four episodes following recurring characters from the main show. It’s unknown whether or not the spin off will continue.

”Mythic Quest” also released two specials during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The cast includes Danny Pudi, Ashly Burch, Charlotte Nicdao, Imani Hakim, Jessie Ennius, and others.

”Mythic Quest” is one of Apple TV+’s first shows and its third comedy after the service launched in the fall 2019. The updated finale will premiere on Apple TV+ on Wednesday, April 18.
