Russell Crowe Reveals Dramatic 55-Pound Weight Loss Transformation

Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe has opened up about his striking physical transformation, revealing that he shed approximately 55 pounds over the past year.

Appearing on โ€œThe Joe Rogan Experienceโ€ podcast on Wednesday, Nov. 5, Crowe shared how a combination of strategic lifestyle changes and using the wellness platform Ways2Well helped him achieve his goal.

The actor, now 61, said he weighed around 277 lbs (126 kg) while filming the historical drama โ€œNuremberg,โ€ in which he portrays Nazi official Hermann Gรถring.

Since that time, he has brought his weight down to roughly 222 lbs (100.9 kg), attributing the change largely to the tailored program introduced by Rogan.

Through the platform, he stated he has received numerous injections to help with various injuries he sustained throughout the years. He creates Ways2Well with calming down his bodyโ€™s inflammation.

“I think we talked before about just how many old injuries I carry, and how the injuries in my shoulders are deeply arthritic,” he told Rogan.

The โ€œGladiatorโ€ actor added, โ€œBut we can now see in an ultrasound that a year ago I had big thick bands of arthritis, and now it’s lessened, probably by about 70%. On one area in my right shoulder, probably by about 90%.”

Crowe Also Has Mainly Cut Out Alcoholย

The iconic actor showed off his weight loss at the recent premiere of the film, which he attended with his girlfriend Britney Theriot.

A significant part of his journey, Crowe told Rogan, has been reducing alcohol consumption โ€” something he previously described as integral to his working-class upbringing.

On the podcast, he admitted he still values a drink but now chooses quality over quantity.

“I’m a big proponent for having a drink,” he began. โ€œBut as you get older, there are certain things that you start to learn about your capacities.”

He added that while he still drinks, he prefers to save the calories.

“If I decide I’m going to have a glass of wine with dinner, then it’s going to be a really nice wine,” he noted. “I try not to have casual drinks now, having a drink for the sake of it. Those add up.”

The actor added that his age has also played a role in how much he consumes.

“Now that I’m an older guy, I know that one night a weekโ€”if I’m having funโ€”is plenty. I try to cut out the interstitial stuff,โ€ he added.

Crowe Is Receiving Some Oscar Buzz

While Crowe lost a substancial amount of weight, he is gaining some serious Oscar buzz for his new role.

The roughly two-hour and 30-minute film is described as follows per Rotten Tomatoes: “As the Nuremberg trials are set to begin, a U.S. Army psychiatrist gets locked in a dramatic psychological showdown with accused Nazi war criminal Hermann Gรถring.”

The film also starsย Rami Malekย and Michael Shannon.

Crowe last received an Oscar nomination for the 2002 film “A Beautiful Mind.”
