“The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” is one of the most beloved shows on Bravo. Among the cast is Heather Gay, who has been a fixture on the show since its inception. Now, she has a new miniseries, “Surviving Mormonism,” and she used it to open up about her ill-fated marriage.
According to US Weekly, Gay discussed her marriage to Frank William Gay. They tied the knot in 2000, and their divorce was finalized in 2014. They share three daughters. Gay said, “About three days into my marriage, I realized that we were fiercely, deeply incompatible.”
She continued, “I thought he was marrying me for all the reasons he wasn’t, and I was marrying him for all the reasons he did not want to be a husband.”
Regarding their divorce, she said, “Divorce wasn’t in my vocabulary. I didn’t know anyone that was divorced. But he did. My marriage was ending, and my Mormon dream was shattered, too. And my entire life imploded.”
Heather Gay Recently Opened Up About Co-parenting
Gay has been transparent on “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” about the stresses of being a single mother. This most recent season, she has also celebrated becoming an empty nester. Per Bravo, she recently discussed her co-parenting dynamic with her ex-husband.
She said during an episode of RHOSLC, “My husband never had custody of the children. He never had them overnight. I had them 100 percent of the time. And his involvement was, you know, fun dad visits once a week.”
Additionally, Gay discussed balancing a difficult marriage with raising their three daughters. She shared, “I look at that era, it was really, really, really hard. And mostly hard because I couldn’t show them it was hard. I acted like it was perfect and normal, and I was so happy, and I was so fine. And I loved everything I was doing. But I was gritting my teeth the whole time. I’m exhausted, honestly.”
Regarding becoming an empty nester, she stated, “I’m just looking forward to a new chapter.”
‘The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’ Has More to Offer for Season 6
Season 6 of “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” premiered in September 2025. Now, the network has released the midseason trailer for the series. In it, Gay can be seen denying that she made out with someone. This comes as she has publicly stated her desire to date.
“The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” airs on Tuesday nights. Gay’s “Surviving Mormonism” will have three episodes.
