Fans of Disneyโs version of โAladdinโ who also happen to love horror are in for a treat.
Deadline dropped news that a horror version of the Arabic folktale is soon to begin filming in the United Kingdom next May.
London Nights, Like London Days
โAladdin: The Monkeyโs Pawโ stars Nick Sagar, Ricky Norwood, Montana Manning, and Bradley Stryker.
The synopsis goes like this: โA modern-day Londoner, Aladdin, inherits an ancient monkeyโs paw believed to grant wishes, only to discover that every desire comes at a soul-crushing price. As those around him fall victim to its curse, he must confront a growing evil โ and the demonic force that feeds on every wish made.โ
Stryker will also direct the movie. Charley McDougall wrote the script. Empire Studios, Every Entertainment, and 8th Law Pictures are behind the production.
McDougall is excited to make a personally driven horror flick.
โThe best horror films haunt you long after the credits roll. Thatโs what this story does. Itโs sharp, emotional, and full of dread in all the right ways,โ he said in a statement. โWeโre not just making another horror film โ weโre building a world around a truly iconic concept. The paw, the mythology, the characters โ itโs all there.โ
Never Had A Horror Movie Like This
Disneyโs โAladdinโ is the most popular version of the Arabic tale – having spawned multiple animated movies, a TV series and a live action retelling. Not to mention a number of video games.
However, this take might take more cues from the “One Thousand and One Nights” version that lives in the public domain.
โAladdin: The Monkeyโs Pawโ isnโt the first horror movie to be derived from a popular Disney property of the same name. Another set of Disney properties including Winnie The Pooh and Steamboat Mickey (the original take on the character) also live in the public domain.
The Steamboat Mickey version of the popular mouse character entered the public domain in January 2024. Winnie The Pooh became free range in January 2022.
A horror version of Steamboat Mickey titled โScreamboatโ was released in April 2025. A Winnie The Pooh horror flick called โWinnie The Pooh: Blood and Honeyโ arrived in 2023 with a sequel landing a year later in 2024.
Producers of โBlood and Honeyโ Rhys Frake-Waterfield and Scott Chambers want to continue the campaign of making horror driven versions of childrenโs stories. Movies from the worlds of Peter Pan, Bambi, and Pinnochio are set to be developed as well. Not to mention a team up movie featuring all of the characters.
